HB 1019 is on to the Governor. As originally written, this cruel bill could force women to carry a nonviable fetus to term. Imagine getting the terrible news that your baby had a genetic issue that was incompatible with life. Then imagine being told that you had to stay pregnant and risk your health.

They can amend the bill to make it less terrible, but this is the kind of thing that should be entirely the decision of the woman and her family. Instead of keeping the government out of our lives, Louisiana elected officials are focused on scoring political points.

In the end, this is just grandstanding that will lead to a lawsuit against the state. Louisiana has the worst budget crisis in decades. Tell Governor Bel Edwards to stop wasting money on things like this and fix the budget.
